I was really excited when Katie contacted me to organise a shoot with her pups Ralph and Lycan. This was my first canine portrait session, and really having experience in only horses I was admittedly nervous! We set out to Kuitpo Forest and after some scouting we decided on a nice clearing to explore. We found a perfectly placed tree stump and began. Photographing dogs certainly has its challenges, but patience and light hearted humour resulted in success. As we shot Katie told me about her pups. Ralph is a rambunctious little ball of energy, and despite looking like a puppy, is actually 7 years old. But that didn’t stop him from acting like one! Lycan however on the surface looks like brooding sort, but is actually an absolute sweetheart with a penchant for finding sticks far too big for him. Originally bred and trained as a police dog, he encountered some joint troubles and came to find a forever home in Katie.
Fun facts about Ralph and Lycan:
Ralph/Border Collie/7 years old - Can not go past his cuddles and can’t get enough of pats and attention, (which I discovered personally during the shoot!)
Lycan/German Shepherd/4 years - He is a comedian, always making Katie laugh! Absolutely full of personality.
Favourite activities - They both absolutely looooove the beach and playing with tennis balls.
