As soon as I entered the stables I could immediately tell that Jumpstar is truly as his namesake suggests, a star (and he knows it). Jumpy as he is affectionately known, is a 16yo off the track Thoroughbred. He is a brilliant show jumper that has been around the circuit numerous times and knows his job well. His owner Amelia tells me stories of jumping 1.40cm tracks and doing it well before she came to own him. She has owned Jumpy for 2 short years, but in that time they have made many memories. Her favourite to date is competing in the 2017 State Champs where she tells me he looked after her all weekend, which seems to be a common occurrence. Regardless of the line, the striding or the going Jumpy continues to take the best of care of Amelia. In contrast however she tells me that he is a proficient bucker, and rather famous for it too! He will unseat even the grippiest rider. Not out of spite, but rather a playful arrogance that he seems to carry over into most aspects of his life. With a cheeky smile Amelia tells me he can be quite the ride, and even offered for me to have a sit on him. To which I replied “I’ll think about it”.

I asked Amelia what her favourite thing about Jumpy was, her response:

He can be so cheeky, but my favourite thing about him is that he’s always there for me when I need him, whether that be heading into a jump and I can’t see a distance, or if I need a cuddle in the stable.""
