It was an awesome and fun experience, and I was so kindly welcomed to view the photos.

Flick & Cobber

I had the wonderful pleasure of photographing Flick and Cobber last month in February. This handsome boy is a 23 year old Thoroughbred, and Flick and Cobber have quite a wonderful backstory which I will share with you below.

Flick explains how she came to own Cobber:

“My love for horses began at a very young age. I remember watching the Saddle Club’s first episode on tv back in 2003. It was then I became “totally horse crazy” I was lucky enough to start riding lessons at the age of 8. I learnt to ride on multiple different horses who I still remember to this day. I’ll never forget what they taught me. I was so “horse obsessed” that I had to have everything horse related of course. Every year on my birthday I would blow out my candles and forever be wishing for a horse of my own.

That moment arrived in 2012 when I was finally able to get my own horse YAY!! I instantly began researching horses for sale. I hadn’t had much luck at first searching for a horse until I came across an advert of a horse named ‘Cobber’ on a website called myaushorse his advert suddenly glowed out to me and that’s when I knew I had to contact his owner straight away. After I contacted his owner, mum and I organised a trip to meet Cobber - “Most exciting time of my life”

The first time I saw Cobber he came trotting over to me to say hello, I then had my first ride on him ‘BEST DAY EVER’ - I fell in love with him instantly. We then discussed about buying him. “OMG my dream is about to come true of owning my own horse” I took him back to his paddock and cried when I had to leave him (even though we were picking him up in a week) That was the longest week of my life counting down the days on my calendar till I get to pick up my first horse!! I can’t believe my dream finally came true…

INTRODUCING “Cobber” a 17.1hh then 12yr old chestnut Thoroughbred gelding. Cobber was born on the 3rd of September 1999. Cobber was an ex-race horse whose race name was “Cobamuse”. He raced till he was around 7 and was trained by David Balfour. Cobber is now 23 years old!

At first Cobber and I didn’t always see eye to eye in fact he was one of the most stubborn horses I’d ever met. After lots of persistence over the first year we finally started to share a bond. Cobber has such a special personality and character, he brings me so much joy, love and happiness everyday, I’m so thankful that he is mine.

We have also just celebrated 11 years together on March 17th.”
